Cliche Corner

There are many compositions that have become somewhat cliched. However, to many new photographers, snapping them is almost a  rite of passage, and actually does  serve to  act as a marker on our photographic journey. The classic shot of someone walking into the space at the end of an alley is a  good example. So, in true beginner style, I took myself off to Dragon Alley in Victoria BC to give it a go

It was also an opportunity to go fishing! Fishing is a term used in street photography where you wait patiently for the right shot to present itself. Choosing the right place, in the right light is the first step. You need to have a vision of how the shot would look like. You also need patience- I couldn't believe how long I had to wait for each shot on a Friday evening.

All of these shots were taken on the Sony a6000 with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens.

I have chosen not to do any post editing.

f8,1/13 sec, ISO 100, EC 0. I used a slower shutter speed, and a smaller aperture. This gave a little more detail of the alley.

Lucky timing as she fixed her hair! Same camera settings as the previous image.

A shadowy figure!

Then there is this one! f8, 4/5 sec, ISO 100 , EC -0.7. The very slow shutter speed accounts for the barely discernable shadowy figure. Then again, could it....might it.... be the famous ghost of Dragon Alley?!
