The Marble Muse- Composition Exercise

I had  noticed this statue from the roadside, and it has always piqued my interest. I decide to take a closer look (on the way to breakfast at  one of my favourite breakfast places!).

As I went into the churchyard I decided to  use this as an opportunity to practice   composition skills by   seeing how many images I could take from different angles. I was really hoping for some nice atmospheric   morning fog rolling in, but alas not that day.

I was using my new to me Sony 18-135 mm lens.

This is a shot of the   statue within the location of the setting .

The Marble Muse

When reviewing this next image  I realized   there were too many trees in the top of the frame.

This one would have benefited from being straighter. I have resisted the temptation to edit this, for the sake of showing the original mistake.

I like this one, the subject is in better proportion to the surroundings.

One thing I  am  guilty of is not  getting  close enough to  my subject, so I  got close up  for this one.   I like the light on the statue here, and we are beginning to see the exquisite marblework.

Oh dear, I was attempting to show some of the statue in an artistic manner.  Cut off the wing tip and again too much background

Not perfect but I wanted to get a close up of the face with some of the wings. I love the serene expression on her face, and the background is blurred so accentuating it.

Another attempt to try something different, just concentrating on the wing.

An attempt when facing the sun which does not work, but the point was to experiment and learn. When I am more proficient with Affinity Photo editing software I may go back and try to do something about the sky and  sun.

By moving to the other side, I was beginning to understand how light changes as you move around a subject. I was beginning to like the early morning  sun hitting the statue from this side

I like this one, taken close from behind, with the trees in the background. I was beginning to enjoy myself!

Then my concentration wavered as it is prone to do. Forgot to reduce the shutter speed with this predictable result.

However, with a bit of Affinity magic   it looks a bit better now .

And one last peep on my way home!

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience, in a quiet , beautiful setting at the start of the day. It was instructive to watch the light change as the sun came out, and how a little thought can have a huge impact on a composition. And for this muse, no need to pose!
