Winging It!

Updated: Mar 30, 2023

It was a bitterly cold day in February when I went to Island View Beach. My purpose was to try to snap some birds in flight, and hopefully have sharp enough images you actually know they are birds! However today I want to start with another of those 'scratching your head' pics and all you can say is "What the ...?!" I post it to maintain my vision of posting pics to the blog that I can learn from. It is a boring composition, very grainy, I am not sure why I set the shutter speed so high.

The grey sea

f 6.3, 1/1000, ISO 200 80 mm, AV

This next pic is added as much for the effort it took to get as anything else. I have always prided myself on my quick reflexes. Well, the seagulls immediately proved to be more than I bargained for! It took a while for my eye and hand coordination to get into gear.

Coming in to land

f.8, 1/1000, ISO 400 80 mm,AV. Still too grainy, this is the photoscape edit version.

An image on a photography blog site of a kite surfer and a seagull in flight
Watch how it's done!

f 5.6/1/2500, ISO 400, 80 mm AV. When I saw the kite surfer, and the seagull in the frame I felt I had a story. I wanted to show how effortlessly the bird can fly, compared to the tribulations of the kite surfer who had just righted themselves after falling into the sea. This is an edited image, in reality the bird was further away from the kitesurfer.
